NATUROPATHIC DOCTOR IN CALGARY ALBERTA

WHAT IS NATUROPATHY?

Naturopathic doctors require a 4-year undergraduate degree including prerequisite medical sciences from an accredited university, before applying to a four-year post-graduate program at a CNME accredited naturopathic college. During and after their 4 years of study, naturopathic doctors are required to write two sets of board exams administered by the North American Board of Naturopathic Examiners (NABNE), before they are able to register for their license.

Naturopathic doctors are trained to diagnose diseases and treat patients with safe and effective evidence-informed medicine. Some of the modalities used by Naturopathic doctors are:

  • Botanical medicine

  • Clinical nutrition

  • Traditional Chinese medicine

  • Acupuncture

  • Hydrotherapy

  • Lifestyle counseling

HOW CAN NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE HELP ME?

Naturopathic medicine is safe and effective for a broad range of health conditions. An initial naturopathic visit is 60-90 minutes in length. During the visit, your naturopathic doctor will conduct a comprehensive health assessment to thoroughly address your primary health concerns and work toward uncovering the root causes of your ailments. Physical examination and laboratory testing may be necessary for diagnostic purposes and for establishing baseline measurements to track treatment progress. By the end of the visit, you will receive an individualized treatment plan consisting of dietary, lifestyle, and supplementation recommendations that will help move you toward your health goals. A course of acupuncture treatment may also be recommended for some patients.

Your naturopathic will want to book a follow-up visit to check-in and ensure that the prescribed treatment plan is providing you benefit. Follow-up visits are 30-60 minutes. Any necessary adjustments to treatment or support will be provided during this time. These appointments are focused on health education so you can feel empowered to positively affect your long-term health.
